Avengers Endgame: Encore Review: Marvel Delivers A True Masterstroke With Massive MCU Surprises

Avengers: Endgame has returned to theaters as Avengers Endgame: Encore, featuring additional footage that directly sets up the upcoming mega-crossover, Avengers: Doomsday. The special screening opened to sold-out auditoriums, with fans cheering as stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans appeared in an intro video greeting, concluding with the iconic phrase, “We love you 3000!”

Marvel Studios saved its biggest surprise for the actual ending. While the original 2019 film ended with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) dancing, Encore alters this sequence. Their dance is interrupted by a knock at the door. Peggy answers to find Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who tells them, “I believe I can help both of you.” This twist recontextualizes Steve’s timeline and directly connects Captain America’s past choices to the expanding multiversal crisis.

The re-release also includes three brand-new credit sequences:

Bruce Banner’s Abduction: Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) is shown in an underground bunker working on gamma suppression. The lights fluctuate, and a voice—Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)—announces he has come to “collect” him. Banner transforms into the Hulk, but when the video feed restores, he is gone, leaving behind a glowing green sigil.

Multiversal Incursion: At the Time Variance Authority (TVA), Mobius (Owen Wilson), O.B. (Ke Huy Quan), and Casey (Eugene Cordero) discover that Earth-10005 (the Fox X-Men universe) and Earth-1127 are firing missiles at each other to stop a collision. Alarms trigger across thousands of realities, with O.B. confirming that the multiverse is collapsing.

Doctor Doom’s Origin: The original audio of metal hammering from the 2000s Iron Man callback is now accompanied by visuals. Shadows reveal Victor Von Doom forging his iconic mask, creating a parallel between Tony Stark’s beginning and Doctor Doom’s rise.

By directly altering iconic scenes and adding major story bridges, Avengers Endgame: Encore transforms a classic blockbuster into an essential prelude for Marvel’s next chapter
