Actor Imran Khan was detained by the Mumbai Police on Saturday, October 10, 2026, while participating in a demonstration at Mumbai’s historic August Kranti Maidan. The protest was held in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) ongoing agitation in New Delhi, which has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Following his detention, the actor took to Instagram, sharing a lighthearted selfie from inside the police van with the caption, “Apparently I’m going for a drive.”
Before police intervened and took him into custody, Khan spoke to news agency ANI regarding his motivation for joining the demonstration. Clarifying that he was participating strictly as an individual rather than representing any political group or organization, he stated, “I don’t have demands. I am here as a citizen, as someone who lives in this city. I am here to see why freedom of movement is being restricted why people’s voices are being suppressed. That is why I am here.”
Imran also celebrated for his memorable roles in romantic comedies like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and I Hate Luv Storys, has largely stepped back from mainstream cinema in recent years. However, this marks his second major public appearance at a political demonstration this year. In July, he joined public protests demanding the resignation of then-Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following controversies surrounding competitive examination paper leaks.
While the police detained several protesters to maintain public order during Saturday’s demonstration, Khan’s presence and subsequent social media post quickly drew widespread attention online, sparking discussions across entertainment and political circles alike regarding civic participation and freedom of expression.
