Wiki : Nandana Dev Sen is an actor from Kolkata, who is also a writer and a child right activist of international repute. She was born and brought in Kolkata from a very known family of Amartya Sen the Nobel Laureate and Bharat Ratna economist while her mother Nabanita Dev Sen too is a prominent authors of Bengali Literature. Since young age, Nandana started writing, while her first poem was published in children’s magazine called Sandesh. She was brought up at various places including India, Europe and America though was born in New Delhi when his father was teaching in the prestigious institute called Delhi School of Economics in 1965.

Wiki : She went to Harvard University wherein she was recognized with the award called Detur Prize in the very first year for topping in her final exams. She continued winning different awards every year for topping her university, which included the Harvard Scholarship and the Elizabeth Cary Agassiz Award for Academic Achievement of the Highest Distinction. She later joined the academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa, got involved into acting and films and later did a full-fledged film program at USC Film School wherein she made a number of films and documentaries. In fact, her thesis movie was Arranged Marriage that got popular and showcased at a number of places. She later went to Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, New York and then to Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London to get her formal training in acting.

Apart from her acting and filmmaking affair, which she did more on the overseas market, she also got involved in Child protection and rights activities. She is the Smile Ambassador for the global children’s NGO called Operation Smile. She is also the ambassador of UNICEF, which comes in the form of India’s National Celebrity for Child Protection and against Gender Based Violence, along with the Cause Ambassador for a program called RAHI, which is India’s first organization to raise its voice against sexual abuse among children. Besides, she has also networked with groups like NCPCR (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights) and playing her role of Child Right Expert there. She has often clubbed her work and passion together to be an actor with a cause and left no stone unturned to do her best for things like child trafficking in India.

She got into films with the psychodrama called The Doll, which was based on social issue, while her next big project was Black in 2005 wherein Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji has together worked for this movie while she played the character of Rani’s younger sister. The movie applauded by the critics and audience thus getting a couple of awards both in India and abroad. She then networked with people like Ketan Mehta and Ram Gopal Varma to do a couple of movies together. She also did a couple of overseas movie like The War Within in 2005, which was a terrorist themed US based drama. She then did an anti war movie called Tango Charlie playing opposite to Ajay Devgan, while also acted in the movie called My Wife’s Murder with Anil Kapoor. The audience and critics appreciated both these movies, which gave her recognition in Bollywood. As far as her personal life is concerned, she is married to John Makinson last year in June. His husband is the CEO of the known publishing house called Penguin.
