Singer actor Monica Dogra will now be seen essaying the role of a lesbian in a 12-minute short film. The film is titled “Relapse” and features androgynous model Casey Legler who became successful as a male model, despite being born as a female, in lead role opposite Monica. Monica was last seen in Kiran Rao’s “Dhobi Ghaat” and this charming lady successfully impressed critics with her effortless performance.
Directed by Rosie Haiber, the film revolves around the lives of two women who fell in love and their married life crumbles when the character portrayed by Casey decides of undergoing sex change operation to become a man. The movie will be premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 9.
The actress firmly believes and favours lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights and is thrilled on being offered a lesbian’s role in the film. On being paired with Casey, the actress said that being a former Olympian swimmer, Casey constantly pushed the boundary in every scene and that kept motivating her (Monica) to perform much better.
Playing a lesbian’s role, when questioned about steamy scenes in the movie, Monica elaborated, “I had to kiss Casey, and it happened very naturally. However, unlike Blue is the Warmest Colour, our film isn’t high on sexual content.” The actress also said that film is at par with the internationally acclaimed French drama, when emotional turmoil and psychological aspects are kept in consideration.
