Girish Kulkarni is a known actor in Marathi Cinema. He hails from ParandaTaluka of Osmanabad near Latur wherein he was born while he was brought up in Pune. He did his schooling from Pune followed by doing his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from PuranmalLahoti Government Polytechnic. During his college days, he soon got engaged into plays and theatres. He then went on to do his graduation in engineering and later worked for different companies as Mechanical Engineer but soon he gave up the ruthless technical environment to enter into theatres to pursue his passion of acting.

Before entering into the world of acting in M Town, he worked in Radio Mirchi as Cluster Programming Head. He was involved in writing stories inspired by his own observations and a number of characters for portraying different characters. Soon he left the job at Radio Mirchi and went on to try his luck in acting and thus got his first film as Valu in 2008. In fact, his very first film got him the first national award giving him a decent exposure. His film was even featured at Berlin International Film Festival in 2010 and has garnered a good round of applauds all across the world.

Some of his movies include Deool, Vishir, Gabhricha Paus, Masala, Pune 52, Postcard, Highway, Jaundya Na Balasaheb and Dangal. He received National Film Award for Best Actor and for the Best Screenplay category for Best Dialogue. He has worked with HumaQureshi and Tisca Chopra in the lead role in the film Highway. He is also working on a comedy film, which will mark his debut in M Town as director. His play portraying the character of a villager from Vidharba has attracted decent words for him.
