Dilwale Movie Review – An emotional film with roller coaster emotions backed with action and drama

Dilwale Movie Review

Finally the Friday has arrived when the most anticipated film of Rohit Shetty called Dilwale is releasing. The film has brought forth the hot couple Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol back on the silver screen giving audience to catch a film together after six long years. Amidst all the buzz and fervour the film is released, which has also Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in it along with slew of other actors like Varun Sharma, Boman Irani, Kabir Bedi, Vinod Khanna, Johnny Lever and the list goes on. The film is produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainments in association with Rohit Shetty’s production house called Rohit Shetty Productions. The music comes from Pritam, while the lyrics are from Amitabh Bhattacharya. Now, let’s dig in deep into this romantic action thriller as under:

Story/Plot

In one sentence, this romantic action thriller movie has a couple – Shah Rukh Khan as Raj and Kajol as Meera fall in love hailing from a family of enmity and then try to overcome the violent conflict among their respective families. The film can be even termed as a comedy movie, which is found with loads of emotions, comedy and action. The film has gravity defying action scenes along with silly slapstick amidst the slow story of a couple who met with their family differences. The movie is all about a story of Raj & Meera and their captivating relationship, which moves through the years or hatred found among their respective families. So, what happens at the end is worthy to be caught over the silver screen.

Script Analysis

In terms of story, there is hardly any. The film was intended to develop on the lines of the epic film DDLJ seems to be far from that threshold and plot. It is an amalgamation of action, love, romance, comedy and other elements, which we often find in any film of SRK. So, you can find certain mindless dialogues and puns in the film to something really unwanted kind of stunts over the roads of the film by Rohit Shetty, which really doesn’t often impress anyone. An action director wanting to make a romantic film in his career of 12 film career seems indigestible to a great extent. However, Dilwale is the closest film to the subject of romance, which in interestingly action, comedy and drama film. Technically speaking there isn’t much from the film of Rohit Shetty in script and content perse, might be this can be another nonsensical film in making.

Star Performances

There are loads of actors in the film and interestingly most of them have tried to display their best talents of acting over the silver screen. Starting from Shah Rukh Khan, the man who get an allegation of overacting seems to have made everyone speechless with his incredible performance. He has tried to master all the emotions, which he was able to portray the best. Secondly, in terms of action, he has tried the best to remain par in every department he has tried to act in this romantic action thriller film. And yes don’t forget the chemistry he has shared with Kajol. The hit couple is back on the silver screen and thus one can expect a lot from an audience point of view, which the two have tried to portray the best. Kajol as usual is fantastic in her character of Meera, which she has portrayed over the silver screen. The other actors like Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Varun Sharma, Johnny Leaver, Boman Irani, Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi, everyone seemed okay over the silver screen.

Direction, Music, Screenplay, Editing & technical stuff

Rohit Shetty has tried to produce a collage of different emotions, action and drama along with a sweet love story in the film, however, in the course of doing this, he has lost a couple of things, which has hampered to the quality of the film to a some extent. But with good star cast, the film is back on track with loads of roller coaster emotions, action and comedy. The director has managed to do things in perfect order though there are certain flaws in terms of balance and proportion in it. Talking about the music, Pritam has finally managed to compose some soothing music this time, similar is the story with screenplay, editing and other technical stuff, which really helped to boost up the entertainment value of the film.

Last Word – Dilwale

Though the initial idea of Rohit Shetty was to produce a film in the lines of DDLJ with registering the name of Dilwale for the film, however, considering the past record of this director, it is really difficult for him to give another epic to the audience. So, Dilwale essentially is an amalgamation of a number of elements, which include the sizzling chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, loads of humour and action along with the roller coaster ride of emotions in the film. Together with all these elements, Dilwale can embark as a good entertainer but certainly unable to repeat the magic of DDLJ. No wonder the film makes huge collection with SRK at the centre but it cannot be an epic for sure.

Rating – 3.0
